Basilius Alawad

Basilius Alawad: Cellist, Composer Biography: Basilius Alawad is a Syrian cellist living in Berlin. Between 2011 and 2013 he studied at the Academy of Music in Damascus, where he performed as a solo cellist with the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Germany in 2014 because of the war in Syria, he has performed at numerous festivals in Europe, including the Weimar Kunst Fest, the Berlinale at the European premiere of the film ”The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble,” Grachten Festival in Amsterdam, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Rudolstadt Festival, Morgenland Festival in Osnabrück. Basilius has given numerous concerts with outstanding artists such as Yo-Yo Ma in the opening week of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Naseer Shamma, Kinan Azmeh, in venues such as the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam. His own compositions he played in different places like the Philharmonie in Berlin the Pierre Boulez Saal, Rudolstadt Fest, Morgenland Festival in Osnabrück. Since 2018, Basilius is a member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, with which he performed in the Hausfest Salzburg, CCK Buenos Aires, Philharmonie in Berlin, Philharmonie de Paris, Philharmonie in Cologne, Waldbühne in Berlin, Carnegie Hall in New York, Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Alawad was selected in 2020 as a laureate of the ”Ettijahat for Independent culture” and through this the first album ”Black Cotton” of his own compositions will be produced.Basilius Alawad graduated in 2021 his Bachelor studies at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, in the class of the solo cellist of the Berlin Staatskapelle; Sennu Laine. and that is where He namm lessons and workshops with names like Daniel Barenboim, Michael Barenboim, Michael Wendeberg, participated. Basilius will continue his Master studies: Film Music Composition at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf under the guidance of names like Karim Sebastian Elias and Ulrich Reuter.
